El Ingenio Shopping Centre

If you fancy a day out from Nerja with a difference and crave for a bit of retail therapy then a visit to El Ingenio is a must.

El Ingenio is the largest commercial shopping centre nearest to Nerja and includes over 114 shops with top brand names such as Dunnes Stores, Mango, Zara and Pull & Bear to mention but a few. Fashion stores in particular are markedly cheaper than the UK.

The building of El Ingenio Shopping Centre is a tribute to the industrial past of Vélez-Málaga. Opened in 2000 and renovated a year later, it reminds us of the sugar refineries in the region, since it has a structure, colours and decorative elements similar to the old premises, for instance, the rails. It covers 28,000m2 and has two areas linked by a conical atrium and a central aisle 330 m long which displays models of the machinery used in sugar cane processing.


The facilities include a parking area with a capacity of 2,600, 114 shops 'including the huge Eroski hypermarket', restaurants, 12 cinemas, a petrol station, a travel agency, and a pet shop, among other specialty shops. There are also a breastfeeding room, an ATM and infant stroller rental services.
